In Loving Memory of Dorothy Schmidt
November 28, 1952 - September 9, 2026

Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and the heart of her family, passed away on September 9, 2026, after fighting a courageous and hard-fought battle against cancer.

Born on November 28, 1952, Dorothy lived a life defined by love, strength, generosity, and devotion to the people around her. She was welcomed home by her grandmother Ollie Hall who raised her to be the amazing woman she was. Also by her parents, Flo Rene Hill and William Thomas, her beloved sisters, brother, and nephews who also preceded her in death.

In 1972, Dorothy married the love of her life, David Schmidt, beginning a marriage that would span more than five decades.

Dorothy leaves behind her devoted husband, David Schmidt, children, Aaron Thomas and Stacie Dominguez, granddaughters, Alessia Barrera and Thalia Barrera, her great-grandchildren, Juan Santos, Jayla, Jaciel and Nemi.  She is also survived by her siblings Mike,Darrell, Nancy and Vicky, and great-niece/bonus daughter, Allysha Thomas, whom she lovingly raised from toddlerhood. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.

Dorothy was the pillar of her family and the glue that held everyone together. Her home was more than just a house. It was a gathering place, a refuge, and the place everyone knew they could come home to. Holidays were centered around her, and her home was where family gathered to eat, laugh, celebrate, and make memories that will be cherished for generations.

Her cooking was phenomenal, and meals made by Dorothy were made with far more than ingredients. They were made with love. Her kitchen was a place where family came together, and the memories created around her table will remain a treasured part of her legacy.

Dorothy also took tremendous pride in her Christmas decorations. For many years, decorating her home became a cherished tradition and a highlight not only for her family, but for the surrounding community. Her Christmas spirit brought joy to countless and Christmas will never quite be the same without her.

Dorothy had a special place in her heart for Jitterbean Coffee, where she was a longtime customer. Over the years, the people there became much more than familiar faces behind the counter. She came to see them as an extension of her family. The friendships and connections she made there brought her happiness, comfort, and countless memorable moments. She was not simply a customer; she was part of the Jitterbean family, and they became part of hers.

Though her battle with cancer was difficult, Dorothy faced it with incredible strength. She leaves behind a family who will forever carry the lessons she taught them, the traditions she created, and the love she gave so freely.

Her absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled. But her presence will continue in every family gathering, every holiday tradition, every recipe made from memory, every Christmas light that shines, every cup of coffee shared, and in the generations of children she helped raise and love.

Dorothy was the heart of her family. She was their home, their gathering place, their strength, and their glue.

She will be profoundly missed, endlessly loved, and forever remembered.

Rest peacefully, Dorothy. Your work here is done, but your love will live on through all of us.
