Dana Smart
April 1, 1966 - October 30, 2026

Dana passed away on Oct. 30, 2026 of a brain bleed. Dana had an extremely hard life. He was hit by a car at 7 years old. He suffered from epileptic seizures constantly. Our mother died in 2005 so Dana came back to Eureka to live near his brothers.  

Thanks to Remi Vista in home supportive services Dana was able for the first time to live alone starting at age 40.  They allowed him to live a life with dignity, which is not easy if you are mentally or physically different than most of the world around you.  

I stayed in the background making sure he was OK. Our sister Faith was in constant contact by phone from Redding, helping him through crisis, being the older sister.

Dana never lost his childlike joy, touching a lot of lives.  He defied all doctor’s predictions living until age 60. After taking care of some final details for Dana I began to see just how many friends he had. People sincerely cared about and enjoyed him.

God gives us all just enough grace.

A memorial service will be announced on a later date.
