Larry Arthur Barrote
October 13, 1949 - October 16, 2026

For the past 10 months, Larry battled with many health issues, including cancer. Luckily, he had no pain and died peacefully in his sleep.

Larry is survived by his sons, Colby and Karsten (Marissa); grandsons, Blayne, Brooks, Kallen, Davin, Jaren; step-granddaughter Claira Bowles; his brother, Aldan (Rachal); nephew, Brandon Phillips; and many cousins and friends. Larry was also survived by Val Barrote, whom he was married to for 34 years. While they ended up divorcing, they remained good friends and were always there for each other, so it was she that stepped up and took care of him when Colby and Karsten could not. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Elsie, and his sister, JoAnne Phillips.

Larry was born in Scotia to Arthur Barrote and Elsie Houseworth Barrote. He attended Rio Dell Elementary and Fortuna High School. After High School he worked for Pacific Lumber for two years before he enlisted in the Navy. After he came home from the service, he worked various jobs in the woods at Yager for P.L. and finished with being a loader/operator, where many co-workers and drivers thought he was one of the best. (Larry would not like us to brag but it was true).

For hobbies, Larry loved all kinds of fishing but especially ocean fishing in his “Portagee Drifter” with his sons, grandsons, and friends. He also loved deer hunting with family and friends. He had special memories of hunting at Yager with Aldan, Colby and Karsten. He was always most excited when whoever he took fishing and hunting found joy in the sport and caught their own fish and killed their own deer. Another one of his favorite past times was playing pool, he was even in a pool league. He enjoyed meeting new people and made lifelong friends because of it.

Thank you to everyone who helped Larry and visited him which made him feel loved. We’d also like to thank Fortuna Rehab and Hospice for their care. Larry did not want a service, so we will respect his wishes.

Larry will be missed by all who knew him. He left a big hole in all our hearts. He is in a better place now where we’re sure the ocean’s calm and the fish are biting!
