Press release from the Humboldt County Elections Office:

As Election Day approaches, the Humboldt County Office of Elections is providing voters with information about ballot processing and when to expect election results for the November 3, 2026 General Election. The Office of Elections remains committed to transparency and accuracy throughout the election process and to keeping voters informed as ballots are processed and counted.

Election Results Reporting

Election results reporting is anticipated to begin on Election Night, Tuesday, Nov. 3, around 8:30 p.m. After the first report, additional updates will be provided approximately every two hours until ballots from all Humboldt County Vote Centers have been returned to the Elections Office. Some election night updates may not reflect changes in vote totals.

Following Election Day, unofficial results will be provided twice weekly, beginning Thursday, Nov. 5 around 5 p.m. Election results updates will then be distributed every Wednesday and Friday by 5 p.m. until the election is certified on Thursday, Dec. 3.

New State Law May Affect Election Night Reporting

A recent change to California law allows county elections officials to extend voting hours at polling places if voting has been disrupted by certain violations of election law. Under Elections Code Sections 407 and 15152, if voting hours are extended at any polling place in California, all election officials across the state must wait until all polling places have closed before releasing election results.

This means Humboldt County’s anticipated election reporting schedule could be delayed by circumstances occurring elsewhere in the state. The Office of Elections will release results as soon as allowed under state law and will communicate any changes to the public.

For more information, please read the Secretary of State’s Memorandum. If you have questions about the new state law, please contact the California Secretary of State’s Elections Division at 916-657-2166.
