After spending 14 years in prison, Delos Moore seemed to be doing well. He’d been working as a production assistant in Hollywood, aided by a group that helps formerly incarcerated people find jobs. He was a guest on a podcast — the host said she had an “overwhelming sense of privilege” to meet him. He’d done some community college and earned himself a scholarship, off to study forestry at Cal Poly Humboldt. Less than three months after being honored at a luncheon, he was back in the hands of the law, arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting someone at his residence — Cal Poly Humboldt’s dorms.

Delos Anthony Charles Moore, 43, had originally only been sentenced to two years in prison for robbing two stores in Gardena, California, in 2007. He and two other men had robbed a cigarette and a water store, he said on a 2024 podcast, tying the tobacco store owner up in the back and punching him in the face after he attempted to escape. He fled to Alabama, but was caught and extradited back to Los Angeles County. He got an additional 10 years for gang-related enhancements. (One of his accomplices, Terrence Adams, was later arrested in 2023 for murder.)

He spent time in a few prisons: High Desert, Kern Valley, the California Institute for Men. He wound up getting five years tacked on for having a knife and narcotics: his girlfriend visited him and gave him a condom filled with drugs, and the prison guards found it during a search. They cuffed him to a chair and put him on “potty watch.” He got caught. “I thought I could pass it,” he said, laughing while talking with the podcast host. “Couldn’t pass that thing. You gotta poop that thing on out. It come with the territory.” What else came were fights, he said, lots of them, one with a guy who did so many drugs it made Moore want to stop doing drugs (“for a second,” at least). “I was getting high with him for a minute,” he said, “…actually, he made me want to stop doing meth…I ended up having to beat him up in the cell, just based on that, because it was just too much. Nasty.”

While imprisoned, Moore got an associate’s degree in sociology from Lake Tahoe Community College. Moore got out in 2021, a little early with the behavior credits he accumulated, he said, and started work as a PA, getting credits for a few commercials and TV series. He wanted to become an assistant director, partly because of the Director’s Guild’s excellent healthcare insurance. 

He started classes at Humboldt this fall. He was a resident of CPH’s Hinarr Hu Moulik dorms, and then was arrested Aug. 31 for sexual assault, and then arrested again after coming back to the dorms despite a court order barring him from the premises. He’s out on a $35,000 bond.

His trial and arrest records from LA County don’t show up in their court system. We’re waiting to hear why. Moore didn’t respond to a request for comment, and CPH was unable to comment before publication. We’ll update this article when we learn more.
