The Design Review Committee is reviewing a request for a Master Sign Permit for the North Coast Co-Op located at 25 4th Street. The applicant wants to use ten existing signs and replace three other signs with new ones. The property owner is CUE III LLC. The purpose of the permit is to allow deviations from wall sign standards in order to have a total of 13 signs on one building frontage. The application was submitted on October 31, 2023. The staff recommends holding a public hearing and approving the application. The project is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The proposed signs are proportionate to the building and compatible with the architectural design.

… or, as a Bruce Springsteen song!

(Verse 1)
Down at the North Coast Co-Op, on 4th Street you’ll find
A design review committee, making decisions to unwind
They got a project on the table, for a master sign permit
Gonna replace the old signs, with some new ones that will fit

(Chorus)
North Coast Co-Op, shining bright in the night
With their master sign program, gonna make everything right
They’re askin’ for some deviations, just to meet their unique needs
But they’ll keep the spirit of the place, while planting new seeds

(Verse 2)
Eric Ernst from McHale Sign Co., he’s the applicant in charge
Gonna utilize ten existing signs, and replace three that are large
The property owner, CUE III LLC, they’re on their side
Together they’re gonna make this Co-Op sign program ride

(Chorus)
North Coast Co-Op, shining bright in the night
With their master sign program, gonna make everything right
They’re askin’ for some deviations, just to meet their unique needs
But they’ll keep the spirit of the place, while planting new seeds

(Bridge)
The site is in downtown Eureka, surrounded by different uses
Residential, commercial, industrial, no time for excuses
With a brewing supply store and a dry cleaner close by
And a hotel and housing complex, this Co-Op’s gonna touch the sky

(Verse 3)
They got thirteen signs on the eastern frontage, facing B Street
Some gonna stay, some gonna be replaced, like an old retreat
The painted signs and mounted signs, they all blend in
With the classic and natural design, that the Co-Op’s been in

(Chorus)
North Coast Co-Op, shining bright in the night
With their master sign program, gonna make everything right
They’re askin’ for some deviations, just to meet their unique needs
But they’ll keep the spirit of the place, while planting new seeds

(Outro)
The public heard the notice, and the staff gave their report
Now it’s time for the committee, to make the final resort
They’ll hold a public hearing, and make their resolution
And the North Coast Co-Op, will continue their revolution
