… or, as a town crier's speech!
Hear ye, hear ye! Gather ‘round, good citizens of Eureka, for I bring you news from the Design Review Committee. On this day, September 24, 2025, a momentous decision has been made regarding the Laqilh Hou Daqh “Where the Elders Are” Wiyot Tribe Housing Development.
The project, located at 6th and L Street in the City Hall parking lot, has been approved for redevelopment into a five-story senior housing development. This project, proposed by Laura Herron of Travois Consulting on behalf of the Wiyot Tribe, will feature 52 units, a second-floor terrace, a commercial kitchen, and other community amenities. Additionally, a ground-level garage with 19 spaces reserved for City use will be included.
This transformative project, designed to provide much-needed affordable housing for our elders, has been carefully reviewed and deemed beneficial to the community. The project has been found to be in compliance with all applicable Design Review criteria and has received clearance under the California Environmental Quality Act.
The City Council has recommended holding a public hearing and adopting a resolution conditionally approving the project. It is a momentous occasion for our city as we take a step towards providing a safe and supportive living environment for our seniors.
Let us celebrate this achievement and look forward to the positive impact that the Laqilh Hou Daqh “Where the Elders Are” Wiyot Tribe Housing Development will bring to our beloved community. Thank you, and may we continue to strive towards a brighter future for all.
