UPDATE: 4 p.m.:

Caltrans District 1 reports that the slide has been partially cleared, and Highway 96 is now open to one-way traffic.

“We’ll be monitoring the situation at the slide location and will continue to update traffic conditions with traveler safety in mind,” Caltrans District 1 writes on Facebook. “We’d like to thank our hard-working crews and allied agencies for working quickly to get traffic moving again.”

Caltrans reports that all lanes of the highway should reopen shortly.

Take notice: The California Highway Patrol and allied agencies are out of the scene of a rock slide that has completely closed Highway 96 just west of the Humboldt-Siskiyou border.
