UPDATE, 8:25 p.m.:
The CHP reports that the slide is still active, which means Highway 101 will remain closed overnight while crews wait for the slide to settle.
“We know this may be an inconvenience and frustrating but the priority is keeping everyone safe including the Cal Trans employees,” the CHP stated on Facebook. “We appreciate the hard work they have put in today and I am sure they will be diligently working at it to reopen again in the morning. Thank you for your patience!!”

Hours after Highway 101 was cleared of debris and reopened south of Crescent City, another active slide has completely shut down the highway near the Humboldt-Del Norte border.
Crescent City’s California Highway Patrol office reports that this slide also occurred on Last Chance Grade and that a hard closure is in effect north of the slide at Humboldt Road.
Caltrans District 1 reports that there is no estimated time as to when the highway will be reopened.
