CHP Uses Non-Injury Crash on Alderpoint Road as Reminder That Roadways are Icy; Weather Service Issues Freeze Watch for Del Norte, Humboldt Coasts
The California Highway Patrol’s Garberville office is using this morning’s non-injury crash on Alderpoint Road as a cautionary tale.
According the CHP incident report, an SUV rolled near the intersection of Alderpoint and Bell Springs Roads today at approximately 10:21 a.m. The CHP’s Garberville office shared a photo of the scene on social media, stating that the crash was cause by icy road conditions.
“Anticipated freezing temperatures tonight will result in increased icy roadways in higher elevations,” the CHP wrote. “Please remember to slow down, buckle up, and remove distractions!”
While drier weather is forecast for the remainder of the week, the National Weather Service reports that below freezing temperatures will be possible overnight.
“Near or below freezing temperatures are expected across a wide swath of northwest California tonight into Tuesday Morning,” Eureka’s NWS office shared of social media this morning. “A Freeze Watch has been issued for the Del Norte and Humboldt Coasts, as well as parts of southern Mendocino and Lake Counties. Temperatures in these areas may reach the upper 20s to low 30s.”
