UPDATE: The Rio Dell Volunteer Fire Department posted the following update to Facebook:

Nothing starts out a Wildwood Days like a busy day responding to 911 emergencies. While most were asleep this morning at 0452hrs our crews were responding to a code 3 medical aid here in Rio Dell. At approximately 0741 crews were dispatched to a CPR in progress slightly past our southern most point of our district out at Redwood Camp off Dyerville loop road. At the same time we were dispatched to an additional Code 3 medical in Stafford. Both calls were responded to with great outcomes. Thanks to the quick actions of some good samaritans and the help of Cal Fire our crews performed a Field Save on our CPR patent and they were verbal prior to transport to RMH in Fortuna. Our crews than at approximately 1015hrs were dispatched to an additional code 3 medical aid in Rio Dell. After arrival at approximately 1019hrs we received an additional tone out for a commercial vehicle fire on south bound 101 at Scotia. With the assistance of Cal Fire, Fortuna Fire, CHP, Rio Dell PD and Caltrans we were able to stop the threat of extention to nearby homes in Scotia. To say our guys and gals are a little worn down would be an understatement. However they are all still full speed ahead to bring a exciting night to kick off our Wildwood Days weekend. Come on down and Root team Rio Granda and Rio Rookie on to hopefully take home the 1st place trophies in tonight’s Fireman games.

PREVIOUSLY: At 10:17 this morning, a report came in of a big RV, fully engulfed in flames, on the west-hand shoulder of Hwy. 101 South near the Scotia offramp. The fire quickly spread to nearby vegetation, prompting a full wildfire emergency response.

Photos and video over on kymkemp.com give you a sense of how serious this fire was, and the video above shows the plume of smoke that rose over the elementary school.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the fire was quickly extinguished. The vehicle owner requested a heavy-duty tow truck to retrieve his rig. The first lane of traffic on 101 south was temporarily shut down, with traffic diverted into Scotia.

AI SUMMARY: At 10:17 am, an RV caught fire on the right-hand side of Highway 101 South near the Scotia Offramp. The vehicle was unoccupied, and there were no injuries reported. The fire department arrived to extinguish the flames, and traffic was diverted into Scotia while the lanes were temporarily closed. The owner requested a heavy-duty tow truck, but the RV was fully engulfed and not drivable. CT was notified, and it was estimated that they would arrive in 20-30 minutes. Buddy's Towing was also called for assistance. A few hours later, the lanes were re-opened, and traffic returned to normal flow.
