Blue Lake/Essex Shooting Update: A command post has been established near the grocery store and Glendale Drive is closed in the area. Law enforcement is likely to be on scene for an extended period as the Humboldt Critical Incident Response Team investigates the officer involved shooting. Avoid the area.

Blue Lake/Essex Shooting Update: CPR in progress, medical on scene. Shots were fired by deputies shortly after a suspect fled from them in the 1000 block of Glendale near the Royal Gold. It is believed that the suspect also fired a weapon but this is not confirmed at this time. No injuries to deputies are reported at this time. The county Critical Incident Response Team is being called out. A massive law enforcement response is in the area and off duty units are being recalled.

Scanner traffic preceding the crash in Eureka described a “New Life Service” Van that was possibly stolen in the Fortuna area. It was reportedly traveling on Highway 101 in the south Eureka area minutes before the collision. Whether or not this was the vehicle involved in the crash has not yet been officially confirmed.

Emergency personnel are responding to a major traffic accident at Broadway and Washington in Eureka. One fatality has been confirmed, according to scanner traffic. Highway 101 is closed in both directions. Please avoid the area if possible.

Eureka Traffic Collision Update on Conditions: Fire is knocked down. A second ambulance is being requested code 3 to the scene. One fatality has been confirmed. EPD is calling out detectives for a fatal crash investigation. The coroner has also been requested. A mutual aid engine from Arcata is responding to Eureka to cover the response area as all HBF units are committed on the incident. CHP and Fortuna PD units are assisting with traffic control. Traffic on Broadway is likely to be impacted for an extended period of time.

Eureka Traffic Collision w/ Extrication and Fire: Broadway and W Washington at Fiesta Cafe for a report of a traffic collision with one subject trapped in a vehicle which is on fire. EPD is on scene confirming one entrapment requiring extrication. Three vehicles are now fully involved with the structure threatened. HBF upgrading to extrication response and structure fire response. EPD is reporting at least one possible fatality. Traffic is being diverted off of Broadway. Avoid the area.

Willow Creek Traffic Collision Update on Condition: After having both aircraft on scene, Creek IC is now canceling both helicopters and the patients are being transported by ground. Cal Fire Copter 611 is returning to Kneeland and REACH 18 will be returning to Willits (and maybe stopping for fuel on the way)

Willow Creek Traffic Collision w/ Extrication: Highway 299 just west of Willow Creek in the area of mile marker 36. Willow Creek Fire, Hoopa Ambulance, HCSO and Forest service personnel are at scene of a rollover traffic collision involving possibly 3 vehicles to include a Caltrans vehicle. Extrication is in progress and an additional ground ambulance has been requested from Arcata for multiple patients. Cal Fire Copter 611 (a new “Firehawk”) is overhead the Berry Summit Vista Point waiting for HCSO to secure the landing zone. Air ambulance helicopter REACH 18 is responding from Willits.

Willow Creek Area Bear Attack: Highway 299 west of Berry Summit, possibly near Chezem Road; An injured bear is reported to be in the area with a bystander severely bitten. The sequence of events is not entirely clear. HCSO, CHP, Blue Lake Fire, Willow Creek Fire and Hoopa Ambulance are responding. Cal Fire Copter 601 (a new “Firehawk”) is responding from Kneeland and air ambulance helicopter REACH 5 has accepted with an ETA of 12:30 from Redding.

Loleta Area Shooting Update: One individual was transported from the scene code 3 by ambulance to an area hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. The other individual who seemingly self-transported to the hospital is also reported to have multiple gunshot wounds. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear.

Loleta Area Gunshot Victim: Hookton Cemetery Rd. cross of Table Bluff Rd., report of an individual shot by a possible family member. HCSO is on scene clearing medical for entry. Another individual just arrived to an area hospital by private vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. It is not yet confirmed that these are related, though a dispatcher referred to the individual at the hospital as a possible suspect.

Orleans update on conditions: One suspect is in custody and the deputy is reporting code 4; HCSO units can reduce and CHP can cancel. The initial report is that the suspect was a homeowner who fired “warning shots”. The deputy reported two shots which passed by them in close proximity.

Orleans Area SHOTS FIRED: Highway 96 in the vicinity of mile marker 32 just south of Orleans. An HCSO deputy is on scene reporting shots were fired at him from an unknown location to the west of the highway. Numerous HCSO and CHP units are responding code 3. No injuries have been reported at this time.

Loleta Update: HCSO is on scene and deputies are reporting that they are code 4 with no victims located. They are out with the reporting party, investigating, and attempting to locate the reported suspect vehicle. The circumstances are still unclear.

Loleta Area Possible Gunshot Victim: HCSO, fire and medical are responding for a possible gunshot victim in the area of Indianola Reservation Road. Unknown circumstances. HCSO was on 911 with a reporting party and active gunfire was heard over the phone. Numerous HCSO units are responding from throughout the county. At least one “suspect vehicle” is reported to be fleeing the area.

Willow Creek Vegetation Fire Update: Air Attack 120 is overhead with approximately 1/4 acre burning between Highway 299 and the creek with limited potential for up to 1 acre. Multiple local and federal ground resources are at scene. Air Attack 120 is assuming “Willow Air Attack”. Forest Service resources have assumed “Willow IC” and are using a Six Rivers frequency for command and ordering through North Coast.

Eureka Suspicious Device: 1100 block of Bay Street north of Myrtle Avenue - Humboldt Bay Fire responded to a coroner’s case and arrived on scene to find the individual on or near what was described as a “suspicious device”. EPD and HCSO are on scene establishing a perimeter until resources arrive to evaluate the item.

Eureka Structure Fire: 6th and E - HBF is on scene with a working commercial structure fire. HBF has requested mutual aid including an engine and chief officer from Arcata Fire, one engine from Samoa Fire and one engine from Loleta Fire to respond directly to the scene. Blue Lake Fire is being requested to cover the HBF response area.

Willow Creek Fire Update: Forest Service is currently showing the Bremer Fire at an estimated 0.1 acres and things seem to be coming under control. Of note, this area saw some relatively low intensity fire during the 2022 Six Rivers Lightning Complex when the Campbell Fire burned down to Seeley McIntosh. The air attack has been released back to Redding. Helicopter 506, the Shasta-Trinity Helitack helicopter, has been released and is fueling for a possible new incident up towards Happy Camp.

Willow Creek Fire Update: An air attack plane from Redding is orbiting the fire and the helitanker is also overhead. Ground resources include Willow Creek and Salyer Fire along with two engines, two patrols, one handcrew, one water tender and a division chief from the Forest Service. The Forest Service is calling this the “Bremer” fire. The location of the fire is reported to be east of Seeley McIntosh from Racoon Ln. and south of Bremer Creek. The coordinate given by the Forest Service are (40.943217, -123.608500). No word yet on acreage.

Willow Creek Structure Fire into the Vegetation: Seeley McIntosh Rd. at Racoon Ln. - Willow Creek Fire is on scene with a structure fire with reported spread into the vegetation. Access is limited to smaller type 6 engines only. All other resources will have to stage on Seeley McIntosh. Salyer Fire is also responding. The Fortuna ECC has dispatched Helitanker 3HT, a large Type I helicopter, which will be responding from Rohnerville. (The original dispatch for this incident was around 16:00)

HBF has established “B IC” and requested a second alarm. Arcata Fire is sending an engine to the scene to assist. Samoa Fire was requested for coverage but was unable to staff so Loleta Fire will be responding to cover the city.

Eureka Traffic Collision Update: Two occupants/drivers of the involved vehicles were transported by ambulance to the hospital with moderate to major injuries. The status of the pedestrian has not been confirmed. I Street is closed from 9th to 7th and 7th, 8th and 9th Streets are blocked at I Street. A command post has been established for the investigation at 9th and I Street. All on duty EPD officers are assigned to the incident and off duty officers have been recalled to cover the rest of the city.

Eureka Traffic Collision: In the area of 7th and I Street - Report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian involving up to 3 vehicles. CPR is reportedly in progress on the pedestrian. EPD is on scene requesting fire upgrade to an extrication response due to at least one driver being trapped in a vehicle. 7th and I are both closed in the area and officers may be expanding the road closures as more resources arrive

McKinleyville Assault: 1000 block of Griffith Road (just south of School Road near 101) - HCSO responded code 3 to reports of an assault in progress. Deputies were initially sent to a different address but diverted to the Griffith address after receiving additional information. Deputies arrived on scene and made entry to the home where they discovered the victims and reported that both had severe head trauma. Fire and medical personnel who were staged nearby were cleared to enter and a second code 3 ambulance was requested. Deputies were out with at least one possible suspect. Both victims are being transported to area hospitals by ambulance with what sound like major injuries. CHP units were also requested to assist.

Willow Creek Drowning Update: The victim on the rocks was just hoisted out by the Coast Guard helicopter and is being flown to the old Willow Creek airstrip/Big Rock area where they will be transferred to the ambulance. The second victim is still missing. The HCSO boat is on scene launching from Big Rock and planning to work upstream towards Kimtu where the missing victim was last seen.

Willow Creek Drowning Update: The Coast Guard helicopter is on scene working with ground resources for the search and rescue operation for the original victim and the second victim who was stranded on the rocks. NOAA is reporting flows on the Trinity River at the Hoopa gage to be approximately 8,500 CFM at 17.5 feet. This is just slightly lower than flows during last month’s drowning incident disappearance in the river on April 22, which occurred several miles downstream near the Tish Tang Campground. Flow on April 22 at the Hoopa gage was in the 10,000-12,000 CFM range, though it was rising sharply throughout the day and the days that followed.
