PREVIOUSLY: Security Camera Footage Shows Physical Encounter Between Wildberries Manager and Teen Shoplifter
###
A group of about 30 protestors gathered in front of Wildberries Marketplace around 10:30 this morning to call for a boycott of the Arcata grocery store in response to recently leaked security camera footage that shows a prolonged physical struggle between the storeโs general manager, Aaron Gottschalk, and teenage girl suspected of shoplifting.
As reported by the Outpostโs Ryan Burns, a video of the September 30 incident was anonymously uploaded to the r/Humboldt subreddit earlier this week. In the time since Gottschalk has received both praise and criticism across social media for his handling of the situation.
In a leaked Jan. 20 letter to staff, Wildberries owner Phil Ricord acknowledged the โrumors and accusationsโ made by โwell-meaning โconcerned citizensโโ surrounding the September 30 shoplifting incident but emphasized that โshoplifting is not acceptable under any circumstance.โ
โUnfortunately, shoplifting and its prevention at times leads to unintended consequences,โ according to the letter. “Had the individual involved responded to numerous verbal demands to stop no further action would have been necessary. Instead, they decided to ignore those demands and continue their exit from the store and were forcibly restrained until law enforcement arrived. Wildberries chose not to press charges.โ
Ricord added that Gottschalk has been asked to work from home for the time being โas he regroups from the barrage of unwarranted and at times vicious criticism.โ

Kim Kardashian, for some reason one of the most famous people to have ever lived, was in Crescent City this week! Freak out if you need to. We know of her entry into our space for two reasons. First, some locals spotted her at The Chart Room โ you know, that old seafood place where sea lions hang out by the harbor. Local radio station KCRE shared the visual evidence on their Facebook page and noted that actor Tobey Maguire was also in attendance for the film crew-captured lunch (though no one bothered to take a photo with him).
Behold! Kim!
Hey! Thatโs totally her!
UPDATE: There’s Tobey!
Moving on. The other data point alluding to Kim Kardashianโs presence in our vicinity comes from her own hand. Last night Kardashian posted video tagged โPelican Bayโ to her Instagram story featuring a sunset-drenched Castle Rock taken from a little pullout on North Pebble Beach Drive. We will note that she included the magic emoji (โจ), so we are going to assume she appreciated the view. See what Kim saw now.
Ahhhh.
Well, thatโs all, kids. Enjoy your Thursday a little more knowing we live in a Kim Kardashian-approved landscape.
