The Eureka Police Department is looking into an alleged assault said to have taken place at Eureka High School earlier today. 

North Coast News reports that EPD was called to campus at around 1:30 p.m. for an incident involving at least one student. The school was not placed on lockdown and EPD tells NCN there is no active threat to anyone else at this time.

Arcata Elevator Rescue: Arcata Fire Engine 8215 is on scene at Cal Poly Humboldt on the 4th floor of the Jolly Giant Commons with multiple people stuck in an elevator that is without power. Engine 8215 is now requesting Engine 8217 respond from McKinleyville to assist. University PD is also on scene and is attempting to contact a representative from the elevator company.

The Times-Standard’s Jackson Guilfoil reports that California’s Fair Political Practices Commission has issued it’s long-awaited advice letter as regards Arcata City Councilmember Alex Stillman and the city’s Gateway Play.

In short: No dice, says the FPPC. Stillman, who was elected in June, cannot participate in any discussions or votes concerning the city-defining plan, which seeks to vastly increase the amount of housing in a somewhat underutilized portion of town.

That means only three of five members of the council — a bare quorum — are currently available to vote on the plan, and there’s another election currently underway. At least one of the current candidates — Dana Quillman — has much the same conflicts of interests as Stillman and Mayor Stacey Atkins-Salazar do, and possibly more do as well. Stay tuned.

Eich IC has fire control. Crews are transitioning into the interior for salvage and overhaul. Correction on location - this is in the 2000 block of Eich by Humboldt Hill.

Eich IC has released Arcata Engine 8215 from the scene for coverage of the city. Samoa Fire also has one engine on scene. “Two out” has been established as firefighters are transitioning into the interior office area of the involved structure.

Eich IC has a primary all clear per report from an occupant who was inside the building when the fire started. Arcata Fire has one engine responding to the scene as part of the commercial second alarm. Loleta and Blue Lake Fire have been dispatched for move up and cover assignments in the city

Humboldt Bay Fire is on scene with a single story wood frame commercial structure with fire through the roof, passing command and setting up for a transitional attack. There is one exposure threatened. Battalion 8104 will be “Eich IC” and making this a defensive fire. Law enforcement has Eich blocked at S. Broadway and Humboldt Hill.

I missed how it started, but about 12:20 an EPD ofcr or ofcrs got into a foot pursuit then a fight near 2nd & C Streets, and requested help from more EPD plus HCSO. Was soon holding one at gunpoint and two at taser-point. Don’t know the cause or result but it sounded like quite a snot-flinger for a few minutes.
