Eureka Shooting Update: Officers remain on scene investigating and Myrtle is closed from Seventh to West. The incident may have involved multiple individuals and the shooter was reported to be armed with a handgun with an extended magazine. Phone contact was made with an additional person who had possibly been hiding in the gulch area before being asked to walk out to meet with officers. That individual reported a possible gunshot injury to the leg and medical personnel responded. Shortly before the Eureka shooting, Arcata PD possibly received 911 calls about an incident with suspect and vehicle descriptions similar to those from the Eureka shooting. Officers have also responded to the shopping center at Myrtle and West where a female was calling on 911, speaking nonsensically and arguing with dispatch while stating that officers were looking for her. It is unclear if or how she may be related to the incident.
