The Coast Guard helicopter landed at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka and transferred at least one patient. REACH 18 is shortly behind. I believe Copter 909 is returning to base and was not needed to transport a patient. Initially, it appears that the crashed plane made a right base turn for runway 12 and was low and slow on the approach (for unknown reasons) before entering the water. It does appear that runway 12 is the runway that is currently in use.

todd / 1:29 p.m.

The Coast Guard helicopter and Cal Fire Copter 909 have landed at the Shelter Cove Airport. Clarification on the prior wind conditions, that is the closest Rohnerville METARs observation. Wind may have been different at Shelter Cove. It does appear that Runway 12 was used by at least one other aircraft around the time of the incident

todd / 1:14 p.m.

It appears that the aircraft went down on the approach to Runway 12 at Shelter Cove Airport but this has yet to be confirmed. METARs at the time was showing winds 6 kt at 300 degrees with reasonable visibility. A REACH helicopter is also on order but not yet responding

todd / 1:11 p.m.

Copter 909 is airborne and enroute to the airplane crash in Shelter Cove. Shelter Cove Fire has resources on scene. A Coast Guard helicopter appears to have diverted from the Point Arena area and is almost at scene. There are reportedly 2 occupants of the aircraft now out of the water and the aircraft is fully submerged.

todd / 12:51 p.m.

The staged fire and medical resources in Trinidad have been released. HCSO was conducting a search in the general area of Stagecoach Road. A request was made early in the evening for air support from CHP to assist but CHP declined due to fog. I believe someone may have been taken into custody but cannot confirm if this was related to the original search

todd / 7:36 p.m.

HCSO has an incident unfolding in Trinidad. They are on a tactical frequency but asked for traffic to be restricted on the main dispatch frequency as well. Fire and medical are staged

McKinleyville Shooting Suspect Search Update: Deputies are responding code 3 to the Trinidad area where a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description has been located in the parking area associated with Strawberry Rock. The license plate on the vehicle is reportedly from Tennessee and the number appears to be a close match for the previously issued BOLO. The vehicle is unoccupied.

Deputies focused their earlier search in the Hiller area after a resident reportedly observed a male fitting the suspect’s description armed with a shotgun in a backyard. The suspect has not yet been located and I do not believe the shotgun was found either (presumably, it may still be with the suspect). Reports from the scene on Silverbrook at the time of the shooting also indicated that the suspect was in possession of a pump style shotgun.

todd / 9:33 p.m.

HCSO has issued a PC 187 (Murder) BOLO (be on the lookout) broadcast to local law enforcement agencies for the shooting suspect. The broadcast included specific identifying information and a description of a suspect who they are reportedly obtaining a Ramey warrant for. (I will not be posting identifying information here until HCSO confirms it publicly)
