LoCO’s daily Instagram battle ran from March 2015 to June 2016. Instagram no longer serves the photos, so what’s left is who posted, when, the votes and the captions.
Voting is closed.
Think Humboldt County is beautiful? Got Instagram on your intelligent phone? Use #HumboldtCounty to place an image here and (temporarily) on LoCO’s homepage. Or just vote on your neighbors’ fine pics below. More details here.
REMINDER: Not everyone whose photo appears here necessarily knows that they’re playing our game, right? Remember that.

2:39 p.m.: Northwestern Ringneck Snake - #HumboldtCounty, #California. #ca #cali #norcal #westcoast #pnw #reptile #snake #ringneck #herp #herping #californiaherps #nature #natureporn #earth #life #wildlife #canon #macro #tiny #cute • • Here the snake is displaying it's ventral colors. It does this in an attempt to warn a predator that it is not a good choice for a meal. There are two main types of aposematic coloration, batesian mimicry and mullerian mimiciry. Batesian mimiciry is when a non-venomous/non-toxic animal has the colors of a venomous/toxic animal. An example would be a honey bee and a bee fly. Mullerian mimicry is when a venomous/toxic animal share the same colors and/or patterns of another poisonous/toxic animal. An encampment would be a honey bee and a wasp. #Evolution is pretty cool! • •
