A description of the sculpture courtesy its designer:

ART: This year Humboldt Kinetic Works and Team Funguy present: “The LION KINGS, the Pride of Kinetics”. Mounted high above the massive machine, the “Funguy Too”, floats an enormous Lion head and stylized mane streaming in the wind. Built of scrap foam pieces, paper mache’ and fur and fabric, this shiny golden KING rides for Glory. At almost 13 feet tall, 7 feet wide and fifteen feet long, this sculpture will dominate the kinetic skyline and will truly stand a head above the crowd. With the Pilots, Pit Crew and Peons all in handmade regalia hearkening back to the middle ages, the 4 pilot Kings, protected by their royal Guard Pit Crew and surrounded by more than 40 peons are ready to seize Glory in all its forms and Rule kinetics with honor.

ENGINEERING: Team Funguy have made some serious changes to their machine, the “Funguy Too”. Rebuilding a rear wheel that was showing its age, revamping the gear system to make themselves almost twice as fast and upgrading the steering system, they are confident the machine will be a contender for the 2018 race. At 13.5 feet long and 7.5 feet wide, this machine is a beast and quite unique in the world of kinetic racing. Some say Funguy was mad to use such big wheels but the wheels themselves are works of art. With over 224 3/32 stainless steel aircraft spokes, they are truly in and of themselves, an engineering marvel. People love the machine but in the end, its the wheels that capture their attention!
