A description of the sculpture courtesy its designer:
ART: Emerging from the great mystery and discarded gadgetry from past civilizations comes Norman the Half-Fast Unicorn! Norman is a Steam Punk inspired unicorn that first emerged from the ether via the kids that are part of Team Half-Fast. At the center of Norman is his golden heart, the true power source of this fantastic creation. Norman will light the way along the boundaries of wonder and poorly drawn maps by safely shooting glorious fire out of his horn! Norman is constructed of steel, foam, and paper-mache and various what-not. Zena Bardelas and Tahvo Stephan provided the artistic inspiration and led the design team.
ENGINEERING: Underneath Norman is an ACE machine built by Marcus Schaible, which previously raced as Soul Train, Flaming Farmers, and Crazy Train. Norman is a two-seater powered by intrepid explorers Alexander Von Halbschnell and Felonious Funk. Each wheel is independently powered by a pilot which gives it extra mobility and resiliency. The machine uses the same wheels for all surfaces making for quick transitions from road to sand to water. A three-pontoon system and paddle wheels propel Norman through the water. A big thanks to expert fire engineer Scott Cocking for his help in safely rigging Normans horn for fire.
