Ashtanga Therapeutics with Bryce Delbridge

Om Shala Yoga

Bryce Delbridge began practicing Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga at the age of 15, after being diagnosed with severe scoliosis. Facing the option of full spinal fusion, his dear family friends Andrew and Ray Eppler suggested that he try yoga. During the first class, he felt at home & at peace in his body; from this initial communion he began devoting his life various alternatives to surgery.

At the age of 20, Bryce traveled to India to pursue a more austere regiment of traditional practice with Sri B.N.S. Iyengar, a direct student of Sri T. Krishnamacharya. While studying all 4 classic sequences of Asana, Mudra, Pranayama and Philosophy, Bryce became pain free. Since then, Bryce has continued to travel & study with world renown teachers, such as David Williams, Danny Paradise, David Swenson, Dharma Mittra, Srivatsa Ramaswami among many others. Bryce has also completed 1000hr certification through Integrative Yoga Therapy. In April of 2016 Bryce returned to India to help film a documentary about the evolution of the yoga community of Krishnamacharya in Mysore, India; how this community has influenced the vast majority of modern day Yoga practices today & the current views held by the keepers of these traditions. The film is called Mysore Yoga Traditions, great efforts are currently being made to complete this film. Bryce’s deepest desire is to assist this world in healing & to be a medium for illumination.

Ashtanga Therapeutics Workshop:
Integrating body, mind & spirit; this workshop will be exploring various ways of creating a sustainable practice for the rest of your life by interweaving mudras; breath work; chakra awareness; visualization techniques; self massage; muscle isolations; asana; vinyasa; deep relaxation and yoga nidra throughout each class. All ages; levels of health & experience; including complete beginners, are welcome.

Individual class descriptions:

Introduction: Stabilize the Shoulders
Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) is the root practice for Vinyasa Yoga, preparing for this, is the focus. Diving deep into the shoulder girdle & directly experiencing the relationships of tissues in the most repetitive movements in modern day yoga. This workshop changes everything; it is a crash course in experiencing how to set yourself up for a lifelong sustainable arm balance practice; by understanding how to avoid repetitive use injuries & acquiring tools for healing existing injuries.

Mysore
Self practice; moving and breathing at your own pace; this is where the rubber meets the road. In here, there is no right or wrong sequence; complete & total open format; all traditions are welcome. From the super advanced to the total beginner, Bryce will be working individually to help you work through any obstacle in your practice; physical, postural, breath/energy, emotional, spiritual etc; he will be here to help you create a customized practice for your needs.

Heal the Hips:
Exploring how to open, stretch, strengthen, stabilize & heal the muscles that make up the hip socket & the upper legs. Want to open your hips? Do you have tight hamstrings? Do you have injuries in your legs? Do you feel tension & limited range of movement? Are your hips in pain? This workshop will help you understand your body & empower you with tools to gradually heal your hips.

Foundations for Floating:
An immersion into the fundamental muscles, movements & practices that prepare us for creating a sustainable practice, in which “Floating” gradually happens. What is “Floating” in Yoga? Graceful movements that seem to defy the laws of gravity. This is most associated with advanced practitioners whose movements appear effortless. This level of practice does not happen over night, that is why we will be laying the foundation for this to become possible over time. Much of this workshop will be focused on building core strength - from the deepest layers of tissues to the most superficial.
