Broken Rituals/Live Bodies
A Workshop for Contemporary Performance Making What is it to make performance with real bodies immersed in the web of contemporary culture? Is it possible to undo ourselves just a little bit and offer something through wild imaginations? Kevin Dockery and Leslie Castellano are offering a 3 hour immersion into contemporary performance making strategies. We will use our bodies. During the course of the immersion, we will make short performances as experiments and provocations for our being in the thick of our questions about being. “The so-called contemporary art is not a form but a philosophy of society.” -Ai Weiwei +Please bring an object that you have some connection with to use in the practice of making art. $40 for the workshop. You must pre-register! (if we don’t have a minimum enrollment, then we will not teach the workshop.). email leslie at muppet33@gmail.com (some work trade available, please inquire) 2-5 pm on Sunday March 8. Kevin and Leslie are quite immersed in contemporary performance making. Having worked with Miriam Wolodarski, Rosemary Hannon, Keith Hennessy, Sara Shelton Mann, Jess Curtis, Zapp McConnell, Abby Crain, Diego Pinon, Shinichi Iova-Koga, and other contemporary dancers and performance makers for many years, they have bodies full of experiments and techniques to share. Kevin and Leslie recently finished a 4 month artist residency at Berkeley’s Finnish Hall.
