In addition to our usual excitement over screening epic films, Humboldt Surfrider is especially excited to share the news that Humboldt local Delia Bense-Kang will be assuming the role of Humboldt chapter chair as longtime chairperson Jennifer Savage is shifting to a new job as Surfrider Foundation’s California policy manager. What this means for you is a chance to take advantage of the new energy infused in your local beach stewardship organization and up your involvement!

DEAR & YONDER:

Dear and Yonder is a surf film that provides a portal into the lives of women who inspire through their connections with the sea. Their explorations take us around the world (Yonder) and just around the corner (Dear) to document women of all ages, crafts and styles. Featuring: Sofia Mulanovich, Belinda Baggs, Stephanie Gilmore, Kassia Meador, Liz Clark, Rell Sunn, Prue Jeffries, Coco Ho, Ashley Lloyd, Linda Benson, Lee-Ann Curren, Ashley Davis, Lisa Andersen, Judith Sheridan, Silvana Lima, Chelsea Hedges, Sally Fitzgibbons, and a wide cast of historical female surfers. Primarily 16mm filmed on location in Australia, French Polynesia, California, Indonesia, Mexico, Arizona



SHARK GIRL:

For 20-year-old Madison Stewart, nothing feels safer or more natural than diving straight into shark-infested waters. Since childhood, growing up by the Great Barrier Reef, she’s treated these predators as family. But they’re vanishing from existence, and because of their bad reputation, few people seem to care. Follow Madison on her mission to protect our sharks, a battle that began when she put her studies on hold, grabbed a camera, and set out to save these incredible, misunderstood creatures.
