Partnership in Music’s “Jest and Jubilation” Performance

Approaching quickly is the most wonderful time of the year! The Partnership in Music Orchestra, (All Seasons Orchestra and the Humboldt Symphony Orchestra) invites you to celebrate in the enchanting and joyous sounds of the upcoming Holiday Season. Three performances titled “Jest and Jubilation” will be presented by Musical Director/Conductor Garrick Woods, Professor of Music at Cal Poly Humboldt, and Concertmaster, Holly MacDonell.

November 17, 2:00 p.m. at CalPoly Humboldt’s Fulkerson Hall, on the Cal Poly Humboldt Campus, 1 Harpst Street, Arcata.

December 8, we will also be on stage (4:45pm) at the Fortuna Christmas Music Festival, Fortuna River Lodge Conference Center, 1800 Riverwalk Drive, Fortuna.

December 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the Eureka Woman’s Club, 1531 J Street, Eureka.

We will perform great works from Johannes Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture and Edvard Grieg’s Three Lyric Pieces and Symphonic Dances, Op 64. You are bound to recognize Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance No 3. and to get you into the holiday spirit, we will perform four movements from Tchaikovsky’s wonderful Nutcracker Ballet. Attracting our more contemporary listeners, we have Soon Hee Newbold’s dynamic Gravitas, and Yokota’s familiar and fun Super Mario Galaxy!
In December, we will add holiday standards that will warm your heart, including Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride, Bob Krogstad’s The Bells of Christmas, Bill Holcombe’s Festive Sounds of Hanukah and, of course, Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus. Children young and old will delight in a medley from Danny Elfman’s Nightmare Before Christmas.

Opportunities for student musicians are offered at Cal Poly Humboldt in the upcoming 2025 Spring and Fall semesters. Early registration for Spring begins the week of November 11th. Students can enroll in Humboldt Symphony (MUS 1060/4060). An informal audition is required for class enrollment. Cal Poly Humboldt musicians who enroll in these two classes automatically become members of the All Seasons Orchestra! Please contact Garrick Woods at 801-857-5092, or garrick.woods@humboldt.edu. For our community and student musicians of all ages, you are invited to join All Seasons Orchestra. Auditions are not required. Registration is open for the Spring, Summer and Fall 2025 season. Rehearsals begin January 25 at the Eureka Woman’s Club. Rehearsals are every Saturday from 10 a.m. to Noon.
