His Girl Friday (1940)
Walter Burns is a hard-boiled editor who learns his ex-wife and former star reporter, “Hildy” Johnson, is about to marry a bland insurance man and settle down to a quiet life as a wife and mother. Walter determines to sabotage these plans, enticing the reluctant Hildy to cover one last story—the upcoming execution of convicted murderer Earl Williams.
Starring Cary Grant, Rosalind Russell and Ralph Bellamy. Directed by Howard Hawks. Based on the play “The Front Page” by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur.
