Spider-Man (2002)
Following the template of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s source material, Sam Raimi takes on the origin story of one of the world’s most recognizable superheroes of all-time, Spider-Man. Peter Parker (Tobey McGuire) is an orphaned, quiet, intelligent teenager living with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben in Queens, New York. Bullied by jocks and madly in love with his neighbor Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) things could be a lot better for Peter. Then one day during a class field trip the unthinkable happens. Peter is bitten by a genetically altered spider and overnight gains superhuman abilities. After selfishly using his powers Peter’s Uncle is murdered by a man he could’ve stopped which then compels him to devote his life to fighting crime. Meanwhile, Spiderman finds a nemesis in his best friend Harry Osbourne’s (James Franco) father, Norman (William DeFoe) a weapons manufacturer who after a failed experiement goes insane with power and becomes the legendary madman Green Goblin.
