Standing the Test of Time (and Space!): 100 Years of Einstein’s General Relativity

For almost exactly one century Einstein’s theory of gravity, General Relativity, has passed every experimental test. But there are many aspects of gravity and its relationship to the other fundamental forces of nature that remain mysterious: Black Holes? Gravity Waves? Dark Matter? Dark Energy? After introducing the basics of General Relativity and some of its curiosities, we will explore current gravitational experiments and what they may reveal about the nature of our universe. We will also focus on how research projects that undergraduates at Humboldt State work on may improve our understanding of relativity.
