The Rubberneckers, The Brendas
Celebrating all things bucolic and bacchanal, The Rubberneckers will return to their home town Blue Lake to play two shows at The Logger Bar to help (albeit unofficially and uninvited) close Humboldt County’s Folk Life Festival.
Original band members Clay Smith (Lead Vocal, Guitar) and Greg Lojko (Lead Guitar, Vocals) will travel from Florida and New York respectively to participate in two nights of music and chaos, reforming the infamous Rubberneckers and another local favorite The Jade Stems.
Friday, July 17 they will play as a duo, reprising ‘neckers tunes with a classic, stripped down, acoustic set. They will also perform as The Jade Stems, with Jay Forbes on drums and Ben Clifton on vocals, in a tribute to their former band mate Kyle Scott who was killed in a car accident early in 2015. Kyle was the lead singer of The Jade Stems, and he wrote all of the songs for the band. They’ll be joined by local rotting vegetables, The Tainted Zucchini, who will open the night.
Saturday, July 18 after the Folk Life Fest, Clay and Greg will play as The Rubberneckers with a full band. Andy Powell will join them on bass guitar and Pete Ciotti on drums to fill out the lineup. Saturday night’s set will be the kind of full on, inebriating and raucous performance that they are known for. It will include many old favorites like “Ice In My Drink”, “The Spare”, “When I’m Drunk”, and “Drunk By Four”, as well as a few new songs special for the occasion. The Jade Stems and Logger Bar queens The Brendas will open the show.
Clay and Greg are excited to get to spend some time in Blue Lake in July, catching up with old friends and making some new ones. They invite everyone to come out and help celebrate the summer, good friends, rowdy rock n roll, excessive drinking and the life of their friend Kyle Scott.
