World Famous Five Year Anniversary

Arcata Theatre Lounge

World Famous Productions presents 5 yr. Anniversary Ft. Alex & Allyson Grey, EPROM, Andreilien, B.Bravo & The Starship Connection!

A savage synth wizard and mad beat scientist who brings bass to life, Eprom infuses his music with such raw energy, sense of movement and love of the bounce that it almost becomes human. Named over and over by other top West Coast producers as an influence and inspiration, this respected San Francisco-based artist is making a profound impact on the evolution of modern sound. Fusing psychedelic space machine murderation, polytemponic neurocrunk and heavy-handed pleasure, Eprom creates obese ogres of bass. His mutated music is so full and rounded that it is holographic; such a massive sound requires multiple dimensions to fully express its brilliant colors and diversely accumulated weight. Hip hop and electronic music are colliding in an exciting sonic apocalypse, and Eprom is a master of this slower yet very danceable style that has caught the ears, hearts and feet of a whole new generation of beat lovers. His sound combines a laid-back lean with forward-moving energy, reflecting the feeling of the Left Coast and resulting in a rare breed of experimental music- one that puts the dance floor first. And dance floors don’t just like Eprom’s low frequency focus and live sound manipulation– they go absolutely delirious over his unique splash-stomping style. Like a sonic pimp with a bent brain, he slings disturbingly crunchy beat monsters, fresh and fun but never overly mashed up. Eprom’s distinctly dirty sound can be found all over the electronic universe, and his beats are just as likely to be heard in mixes by dance music’s biggest names, dropped by local DJs in dive bars, echoing across frothy outdoor festivals or pounding on the edge of a cliff in outer space where a dance floor’s dreams are coming true.

Far far away in deep auditory space, Heyoka has been abducted, cosmically mind probed, upgraded and reconfigured in an extra terestrial lab on a planet known as Marklar. Fortunately he has returned almost entirely unharmed, and now shall be known as the artist currently know as Andreilien… Andrei Olenev first emerged as HEYOKA on the San Francisco underground glitch/bass scene in 2006. By 2009 he was touring extensively and quickly became a staple sound in the rapidly growing bass music scene of North America. With a constantly evolving, original style, he stood out amongst bass music producers as one who keeps the vibe going strong while venturing to explore new realms of sonic experience. Playing always live sets of his own original tracks, his music has been described as a journey through fractal soundscapes and alternate realms while riding the waves of fat glitch beats and earth rumbling sub bass. Further expanding artistic horizons, Andrei has been continually working to develop a multimedia project with original Visionary and 3D art to create full sensory fractal journey in a dimension of its own. So, for a sonic journey so thick you can smell it, keep listening to signals from beyond for Andreilien playing in a noosphere near you…

B. Bravo adds a touch of love to every funked-out late night synth groove he gets his hands on. Hailing from California under the influence of west coast GFunk, Roy Ayers and Herbie Hancock, he’s pioneering a new sound in electronic music connecting interstellar funk and R’n’B with contemporary dance, hip hop and ‘bass’ music. As a founding member of the Frite Nite label/crew based in San Francisco, he is also a driving force in the emerging worldwide Modern Funk Movement. Bravo’s massive tune ‘Computa Love’ gained international acclaim as one of London tastemaker Benji B’s ‘best of 2009′ selections for his BBC 1xtra radio program, and as the lead track and 12″ from Gilles Peterson’s 2010 Brownswood Electr*c compilation. Red Bull Music Academy hand picked Bravo as a participant to attend their coveted program in London for 2010 and continue to support him as celebrated alumni. As a DJ and live performer, complete with synths, vocoder and talkbox, Bravo has shared the stage with artists like Chromeo, Dam-Funk, Flying Lotus and in 2011 serenaded crowds across the world with his bass heavy outerspace boogie and dirty grinding synth grooves at festivals like SXSW, Detroit Electronic Music Festival, and Sonar in Barcelona.

Alex Grey was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 29, 1953 (Sagittarius), the middle child of a gentle middle-class couple. His father was a graphic designer and encouraged his son’s drawing ability. Young Alex would collect insects and dead animals from the suburban neighborhood and bury them in the back yard. The themes of death and transcendence weave throughout his artworks, from the earliest drawings to later performances, paintings and sculpture. Alex went to the Columbus College of Art and Design on full scholarship from 1971-3. Grey dropped out of art school and painted billboards for Columbus Outdoor Advertising, 1973-4. Grey then moved to Boston to study with and work as studio assistant for conceptual artist, Jay Jaroslav, at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 1974-5. At the Museum School, Alex met his life-long partner, the artist, Allyson Rymland Grey. At their meeting in 1975, an entheogenically induced mystical experience transformed his agnostic existentialism to a radical transcendentalism. The Grey couple continued to take “sacramental journeys” on LSD. For five years, Alex worked in the Anatomy department at Harvard Medical School preparing cadavers for dissection while he studied the body on his own. He later worked for Dr. Herbert Benson and Dr. Joan Borysenko as a research technologist at Harvard’s department of Mind/Body Medicine, conducting scientific experiments to investigate subtle healing energies. Alex’s anatomical training prepared him for painting the Sacred Mirrors (see below) and for working as a medical illustrator. Doctors at Harvard saw images of his Sacred Mirrors, and hired Alex for illustration work.
