Presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has vowed to put a stop to federal offshore wind energy projects if he is elected again in November.

“I’m going to write it out in an executive order,” Trump said during a rally in New Jersey over the weekend. “It’s going to end on day one.”

A longtime opponent of offshore wind, Trump used his rally to repeat the claim that offshore wind turbines have been responsible for numerous whale deaths, an accusation refuted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. 

“They kill the whales!” Trump said of the windmills. “The ocean floor surveys for their construction are causing tremendous problems with the fish and the whales and everything else. Nobody even knows what it is! But I think in 20 years one whale washed up on shore and then, where they have these things, they come up all the time. Dead!”
