POLL! More Speed Humps and Roundabouts, Anyone?
Slow your roll, Speed Racer!
Today we learn that the Humboldt County Association of Governments is deploying a series of temporary traffic-calming measures across the county this summer. We’re talkin’ new speed humps in Arcata and Ferndale, radar feedback signs in Arcata and Fortuna, bike lane striping in the Cream City, temporary mini roundabouts in Eureka and more.
Thoughts?

UGH, so annoying! Speed humps, roundabouts, bulb-outs, bicycle boulevards 😡 … What’s next, spike strips?! Roads are for cars. Lemme VROOM!
?? %
Oh, chill out. These are reasonable, evidence-based measures to reduce traffic injuries and deaths. That’s worth arriving three to 12 seconds later than you planned.
?? %
These things may be good in theory, but the temporary measures won’t work. Local cities need comprehensive redesigns of their road systems.
?? %
These things may be good in theory, but Humboldt County drivers aren’t smart/responsible/sober enough to navigate ‘em. Learn to yield, dingbats! And try a turn signal once in a while!
?? %
None of this would be necessary if people would drive the speed limit and stop messing with their damn phones while driving. Spend the money on traffic enforcement instead.

As a frequent cyclist, pedestrian, roller-skater and/or kinetic sculpture operator, I applaud this!

Fix the potholes!
