“Man, I tell you what, dang ol’ Supervisor Rex Bohn, man, that fella knew me way back when, talkin’ ’bout when I was just a little ol’ pup, man. Barely knew which end of a pickup truck was the front, tell you what. Used to run around gettin’ into trouble, chasin’ squirrels, skinnin’ my knees, whole dang deal.

“And ol’ Rex, man, he’d look at me and say, ‘You keep at it, boy.’ Didn’t matter if I was makin’ a mess of things or ridin’ my bicycle straight into a blackberry bush, man. He seen somethin’ there, tell you what.

“Now look at us, man. Rex got himself all grown up, wearin’ them supervisor clothes, attendin’ meetings, shakin’ hands, talkin’ policy and infrastructure and whatnot. But I tell you what, it means somethin’ when a fella remembers you from back when you were just a pup. Means he remembers where he came from, remembers the folks he grew up around, remembers the little guys runnin’ around with grass stains on their pants and not a clue in the world.
