On Tuesday, a leading AI researcher warned that the rapid development of self-improving computer superintelligence could lead to human extinction.
“Do not underestimate the power of this technology,” David Coxon wrote on X shortly after resigning in protest from Anthropic. “There will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionize any field overnight and acquire real power and resources.”
Two sentences later he said, “The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.”
