Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Press Release:
On 02-01-2012 at about 0800 hours the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and the Humboldt County Drug Task Force served a search warrant at a residence located in the 2800 block of Little Pond Street, McKinleyville for marijuana cultivation. When officers arrived at the residence they contacted Jon Lee Miller age 29, his 25 year old girlfriend and their two children, ages 5 years and 10 months.
Officers located a commercial indoor marijuana growing operation in the garage and one of the bedrooms in the residence that was being used to process marijuana. The five year old child had access to the garage and bedroom. Humboldt County Child Welfare Service ( CWS) was contacted and they responded to the residence. Jon Miller was arrested for cultivation and possession for sales of marijuana. A total of 313 growing marijuana plants were seized from the residence along with about 4 pounds of processed marijuana, a handgun and $1,100 dollars in cash.
Officers were concerned over a possible electrical fire hazard, regarding the indoor marijuana growing operation. Humboldt County Building and planning Department were then contacted and responded to the residence. Humboldt County Building and Planning Department then contacted PG&E to remove the electrical power to the residence, because of the fire hazard.
CWS placed the mother and her two children at a relative’s house. This case is still under investigation by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and CWS. This investigation will be sent to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office for possible child endangerment charges to be filed against Jon Miller and the mother of the children, regarding the cultivation of marijuana in the residence where their children reside.
