The shelves are literally empty at the Northern Calif. Community Blood Bank. It has announced a critical shortage of blood types A and O. Director John Gullam says, “As you can see, we currently have NO O or A available to send. (Hospitals do have a small inventory and we are in the process of finding blood centers out of the area to assist.)” According to a press release:
Due to reduced collections and several emergency patient needs, the Blood Bank inventory of types O and A have reached critical levels.
Eligible donors are asked to make arrangements to donate as soon as possible. The Blood Center will be open tonight until 7pm.
Bloodmobiles will be located at Rohner Park in Fortuna from 2pm until 7pm tonight, the Eureka Mall from noon until 6pm and the Arcata Co-Op from Noon until 6pm.
For Bloodmobile locations the rest of the week community members are asked to check the Blood Bank’s website at nccbb.org.
