A big LoCO pat on the back goes to the direction reading voters who bothered with this week’s poll. Yes, there is something of a literacy test ingrained in the Humboldt Approved voting system.
In other news, we are prepared to announce Humboldt’s best sandwiches as decided by Lost Coast Outpost readers. It appears that to appeal to this crowd, you needed to pile on the meat. Anywho, drumroll! Congratulations to Eureka’s Humboldt Smokehouse, makers of the Kansas City Beef Sandwich (winner of our metro region award) and Redway’s Pig and the Hen, makers of the Maple Pork Sandwich (winner of our rural region award). Something we noticed this week: If you’re a business nominated for something in Humboldt Approved, it never hurts to rally your faithful Facebook followers. Just puttin’ it out there, Internet.
So there you have it, HumCo. Now that you have the intel, plan your next lunch date accordingly.

UPDATE 2:49 p.m.: Geez. In the audio below, KHUM DJ Larry Trask argues with the Lost Coast Outpost‘s Andrew Goff and Hank Sims on if this week’s Humboldt Approved poll question was gracefully stated. Then a listener calls in to throw a hamburger shaped wrench into the works.

Now that we know that Humboldt is dissatisfied with their Chinese food options, let’s find out how y’all feel about our local sammiches. For this week’s Humboldt Approved, your Lost Coast Outpost wants to know who you go to when you want stuff stuffed between bread and what that stuff is. To be clear: What is Humboldt’s best sandwich?
Since LoCO is asking for a more specific thang than we usually do we’ll give you the preferred style for you to submit your answer in:
“The (insert sandwich) at (insert restaurant) in (insert city).”
Oh man, if you follow those guidelines we’ll be so happy we might buy you all sandwiches (not really). And now, our weekly rundown of how voting works:
To vote, look through the comments of this Humboldt Approved poll. If someone has already nominated the answer you would give for that week’s category, click the upvote arrow. If you don’t see your desired Humboldt Approved answer nominate it in a comment for others to upvote. (Please be careful to not duplicate answers; redundant answers will be deleted and potential associated upvotes will be lost.) Feel free to make your case by replying to/cheering on the answer you love most, but again the number by the arrows is what counts.
Of course, you can vote for as many nominees as you deem worthy, but of course the more you do that the more watered down your initial vote becomes. That’s math.
We reserve the right to delete superfluous comments that make the voting/comment section hard to sift through. Please try not to get offended when your comment battle reply is deleted. We’re trying to do something here.
We are looking for two winners — one winner from the metropolises of Eureka and Arcata, and one from Humboldt’s smaller communities. Winners will be declared next Friday at noon.
You are tasked with crowning the King of Humboldt’s Sandwiches. Follow directions. Get to work.
(Tip: Sort comments by “BEST” to get a better grasp of how voting is going.)
