Before everyone gets all excited, perhaps you should take a gander at this US Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay press release LoCO received last week:
The Coast Guard, Arcata Fire Protection District and Humboldt Bay Fire will be conducting training exercises adjacent to Mad River Community Hospital this upcoming week. The training will occur at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (December 1st, 3rd, and 5th). The goal of this training is to provide a realistic scenario to evaluate the Coast Guard aviation mishap plan and to provide training to our partner emergency responders.
The purpose of this notification is to advise the public that this a training exercise and to ensure a safe distance is maintained between the exercise and any bystanders. The training will be conducted on private property a safe distance away from all buildings and roadways. So long as bystanders maintain a reasonable distance from any aircraft and vehicles involved there will be no hazard to the public.
And since we’re on the topic of non-emergencies, today, there’s also this.
