A Lost Coast Outpost Facebook friend alerts us to the fact that a cow is running down Highway 101 near Fortuna, currently blocking both northbound lanes.

Scanner traffic indicates that the animal is really a calf, and that it escaped from a nearby auction yard. Six people are currently attempting to wrangle the little fella, a dispatcher tells police heading to the scene.

UPDATE 1:41 p.m.: “The cowboys have the situation in hand,” the same cheery dispatcher just said.
