Geez. Let’s end today’s harrowing Lost Coast Outpost day with something uplifting, shall we?

Local sports followers will recall Mo Charlo, the 2001 Eureka High graduate who went on to play Division I basketball for the University of Nevada, Reno’s Wolf Pack from 2004-2006. Since college, Charlo has been toiling for various teams in the NBA’s development league, most recently for the Sacramento Kings’ squad the Reno Bighorns. It’s been a long haul.

Things may be picking up for Mo. The now 30-year-old forward was named to the NBA D-League Showcase tournament’s First Team after the Bighorns went 2-0 at the event held in Reno earlier this week. NBA scouts in attendance notice these things — The D-League’s website notes that 122 current NBA players have spent time in its ranks.

“You want to showcase whatever you can, as far as whatever is your strong point,” Charlo told NBA D-League cameras after the tournament.

“I’ve been working so hard for a long time, passing up a lot of jobs overseas to come back to the D-League and pursue my dream,” Charlo said when asked to pitch himself to NBA scouts. “Hopefully the time is now.”

Best of luck, Mo. Watch your hometown hero’s full interview below.
