Douglas De Emmons was born Nov. 10, 1946 in Portland, Ore. to Lester Cass and Ellen Anita Emmons. On April 3, 2015, after a short but courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia at Cal Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, Doug passed away peacefully, with his loved ones by his side.

Doug attended school in Scotia, Rio Dell, Fort Bragg and Lakeport. He graduated from FUHS in 1964. He enlisted in the Army after graduation and was stationed in Germany. He returned home in 1967. In Feb. 1968, he married his soulmate Teresa (Terri) Forseth. It was a beautiful marriage that endured for more than 47 wonderful years. He was blessed with two wonderful sons, Casey De and Jeffrey Alan. The blessings just kept coming when he received three beautiful grandchildren: Cody, McKenzie & Elle.

He was so proud of his family and all their accomplishments in life.

Doug enjoyed being in the outdoors fishing, hunting, backpacking and camping. He loved fishing the lagoons in Northern Humboldt, and spending time with his best friends, the Rutledges, at their cabin in Barry Creek.

Doug was a Little League coach and assistant coach for his son’s teams. He was also an avid fan and supporter of his grandchildren’s sporting events. He could always be seen rooting in the stands with a big smile on his face.

He was employed with McIntosh Lumber Company from 1967-1976 and Pacific Lumber Company in Scotia from 1976-2002. Then he was employed with the City of Fortuna in the maintenance department before taking a position at the Scotia Elementary School, working in maintenance/custodial. Doug also was a van driver, transporting students in the outlying areas of the district. Doug loved this job and always commented on how he really enjoyed meeting the student’s parents and getting to know them. He got to know their children as well, gaining their respect with many lasting friendships.

Doug & Terri retired in July of 2013 and enjoyed every day to the fullest. Doug is deeply missed by his family, friends, and his labrador retriever, Charlie, who is lost without him.

He is survived by his wife, Terri; sons Casey (Kim) and Jeffrey (Siana); grandchildren Cody, McKenzie and Elle; mother, Ellen; and brother, Steve, all of Fortuna. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Regina Hauger of Eureka; brother-in-law Gary Forseth (Vivian) and sister-in-law Ann Forseth-Smith (David “Randy”) of San Diego; uncle Gary Jensen (Candy) of Sebastopol; aunt Marge Hergert of Portland, Oregon and aunt Donna Yde of Rathdrum, Idaho; niece Stephanie Emmons of McKinleyville and nephew Clayton Emmons (Brandi) of Eureka; great-nieces Bernidette Smith, Olivia Smith, Lyla Smith and Pollyanna Emmons of McKinleyville and Evelyn Emmons of Eureka; a great-nephew, Brice Emmons of Eureka; and several cousins.
