The syndicated half-hour TV show Right This Minute — a compilation of “viral videos” dissected by a quartet of attractive people sitting in front of their laptops — seems to be on something of a Humboldt County roll lately.
Last week the show featured the now-famous footage of teens pushing a homeless woman into Humboldt Bay.
Today: A Very Special Episode featuring former Humboldt County resident (and one-time LoCO contributor) Brett McFarland, who last year was sentenced to five years in federal prison on marijuana trafficking charges. These followed a large-scale federal raid of locations around the county in July 2012, which followed a large federal investigation originating in McFarland’s home state of South Dakota.
McFarland is still serving out his sentence, where — we learn — he is a huge fan of Right This Minute. He writes the RTM crew asking them to deliver a very special birthday message to his wife, one that was filmed, he says, before he was sent away. It’s an original birthday tune, shot and edited by local video wunderkind Matt St. Charles.
The guys and gals of RTM are only too happy to comply, but they decide to crank the awesome up a couple of notches by surprise-Skyping the birthday girl in question. Check out the segment below, and keep a hanky close!
