In tonight’s second edition of “Hey, LoCO, what’s going on in my neighborhood?” — see the first one here — lots and lots of people have written to ask us what is up with the police helicopter circling North Arcata about 45 minutes ago, along with the large number of cops around the Valley West/Mad River area.
Well. It is very difficult to get hold of the Arcata Police Department at this hour, so we turn to our friend the police scanner. It turns out that at about 7:39 p.m. the APD received a call from Mad River Community hospital stating that a man with an altered state of consciousness escaped from his restraints and fled the scene. The man had earlier attacked a paramedic, dispatchers told officers in the field. It was determined that the CHP helicopter was in the area, so it joined the search.
As I have said: Very difficult to get hold of APD at this time of night. So we’re going to leave our story there, for the moment, and give things about a 80 percent chance that everything has resolved or will resolve itself uneventfully. If you know anything to the contrary, please do send an email or hit us on Facebook.
Here are some relevant bits of tape from the scanner.
