Short answer: not at all. This morning I spoke with Brian Garcia, one of the forcasters at the NOAA office on Woodly Island, about Hurricane Patricia. Although Patricia is the largest hurricane ever to hit Mexico, this category 5 storm, packing winds up to 200 mph will not affect Humboldt County at all. Not even increased fog drizzle. The storm is expected to track across Mexico and wind up in Texas. Garcia explained that even if the storm tracked straight up the coast, our waters are so cold that this monster system would quickly dissipate.
So while we wish the best for the people of Mexico dealing with the devastation this storm is expected to bring, it looks like Humboldt County will escape this one free and clear.
