Six Rivers National Forest Service:
EUREKA, California, October 28, 2015 – Looking for a way to get out and enjoy your local national forest? How about starting a new tradition with a trip to the forest to cut your very own Christmas tree? On the Six Rivers National Forest, Christmas tree permits will be available for purchase from the locations listed below starting on Monday, November 2, and continue through Wednesday, December 23. Christmas tree permits may also be purchased by mail.
Please contact individual district offices to obtain the starting date for the weekend permit sales. All Forest Service offices will be closed Wednesday, November 11 and Thursday, November 27, in observance of Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving.
Individuals must be 18 or older to purchase a permit, which are $10 per tree. The Forest Service accepts cash, check, or credit/debit cards as payment. All sales are final with no refunds. The permit “tag” must be signed and attached to the cut tree.
There is a limit of two tags per household; however, one person may purchase a maximum of five tags. Separate names and addresses must be provided for each additional tag. Trees may be cut and removed from the forest any day of the week.
To purchase a Christmas tree permit by mail, include the following information with the
request: (1) name, (2) address of where to mail permit, (3) daytime telephone number, (4) driver’s license number, and (5) check or money order for $10 per permit payable to USDA Forest Service. Please put Christmas Tree Permit on the outside of the envelope, and allow one week for processing your request. Mail-in requests received after December 13 will not be filled. Let someone know your location and estimated return time.
Bring cold weather clothing, even if the day is nice when you start out.
Bring emergency food and water, first-aid kit, tire chains, and shovel.
Have a full tank of gas in your vehicle.
Remember to take your tag and a map with you to your forest location.
