UPDATE, 12:58 p.m.: Humboldt Bay Fire Battalion Chief Chris Jelinek tells the Outpost both cars were traveling in opposite direction and somehow collided head-on. Firefighters used the “jaws of life” to free multiple passengers trapped inside the vehicles. All three victims were transported to the hospital. Jelinek said one person was believed to have sustained serious injuries.

Fire engines and ambulances are on the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Broadway in front of the Lithia dealership on the south end of Eureka. Traffic is at a crawl in both directions as rescue personnel conduct rescue operations and attempt to clear the road.
Avoid the area if possible.
