California Highway Patrol press release:
On 04/14/2016 at approximately 0035 hours, a 1996 Dodge Ram, driven by 27 year old Michael Peak was traveling southbound on US-101 approaching The Standish Hickey states recreation area . For reasons still under investigation, Peak lost control of the Dodge and collided with the ascending embankment east of US-101. As a result, the Dodge overturned and ultimately came to rest on its left side partially within the northbound and southbound lanes of US-101. Peak was able to exit the Dodge along with his passenger, 22 year old Terra Gaytan, and they awaited emergency personnel response.
Peak and Gaytan suffered moderate injuries as a result of this traffic. Peak and Gaytan were transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital by City Ambulance.
The California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire, Leggett Volunteer Fire Department, and Piercy Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
This collision is still under investigation by the Garberville CHP.
