Throughout history, many a roadtrip from Humboldt to the Bay Area has been made more bearable by the promise of a stop at In-N-Out Burger, God’s favorite fast food joint. Well, the distance between Humboldters and Double-Doubles will soon shrink, rawr!

This week the Ukiah Daily Journal reported on rumors that In-N-Out are the purchasers of the site of the old Fjords restaurant in on North State Street in Ukiah just off Highway 101. The UDJ initially had a hard time getting anyone to state on the record that Animal-Style fries were in Mendo’s near future. From their report

Todd Shapmire of RE/MAX, who represents the seller of the building, said he was “not at liberty to disclose who bought the building,” but he could confirm that it was in escrow, and he expected that process to close within 30 to 60 days, with demolition and site work beginning after that.

When asked to confirm that the building was being demolished, Shapmire said, “I can’t imagine that building being reused for anything.”

They finally got their confirmation from Steve Dunnicliff, director of the Mendocino County Planning Department. According to Dunnicliff, In-N-Out submitted an application late last month to demolish the old Fjords building. Permits might be approved as early as this week. What a world.

Does LoCO need to tell you this is good news? You understand this, yes? Like, you may have noticed the ground was wet this morning, not from rain, but as a result of your neighbors salivating. That’s how much Humboldt cares! At this rate, maybe look for In-N-Out to take over the old Arctic Circle building in Eureka by, oh, 2022.

Pickle spread-covered fingers crossed.
