Currently, from the moment consciousness is achieved each morning until we drift away into the embrace of sweet-but-temporary obliviousness each night, our American brains endure an onslaught of spirit-crushing, trivial updates concerning the 2016 presidential race. Starting to wonder about you, democracy!

Anyway, here’s something that happened locally. This morning Yvonne Roberts, of Fortuna, posted the below video to her Facebook wall seemingly chronicling two separate incidents of her “Trump: Make America Great Again” signs being disrespected by, one would guess, The Donald detractors. Roberts works at an office on Fortuna’s Main Street where she has proudly displayed signs advocating her candidate of choice, a move which has drawn various forms of physical criticism this week.

In the clip’s first sequence, a woman driving a Prius can be seen approaching Roberts’ office window — it’s revealed later in the clip to that she affixed a “Hillary ’16” sticker to the glass over Roberts’ indoor Trump sign — before entering the building to reportedly conduct regular business. Later she fiddles with a different sign displayed in the business’s planter box.

“More dirty rotten scum vandalizing our building,” Roberts opined on Facebook.

A second occurrence of sign assault occurred just last night, according to Roberts. The next scene in the video takes place around 12:30 a.m. and shows a man in a hoodie grabbing the outdoor Trump sign out of the planter, throwing it on the ground and stomping on it in disgust before carrying it away.

“I know everyone has their own political opinions. I totally respect that,” Roberts told LoCO. “It bothers me when people try and take my rights away. In the past we have had eggs thrown at our office and signs ruined and taken over and over.”

The Fortuna Police Department took Roberts’ report and was somehow able to recover the stolen sign — “They walked down the street in the direction the guy walked,” Roberts said. California Penal Code Section 490.2 states that “A person who takes, possesses, damages, reuses, or moves any political sign or signs without authorization from the owner of the sign or signs and with the intent to prevent, substantially alter, or substantially obscure the communication of the sign, is guilty of an infraction or a misdemeanor.”

95 days until election day.
