We know it’s a hassle for employees of public works departments and it costs the taxpayers some dough and is probably something of a hassle to neighbors, but there are few sights as wonderful as a sheared fire hydrant disgorging its contents up into the sky on some otherwise uneventful street.

The action today is on Eureka’s West Side, near the intersection of Fairfield and Progress streets. Friend o’ the LoCO Drew Redden seemed to have caught the geyser at its peak; when reader Tiffany Givens happened by, the pressure seems to have been relieved.
