Anne Lozensky, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2016 at the age of 102. Anne was born in Scotia, California, on May 22, 1914 to Nella and Modesto Masini. Five years later her brother Joe was born. Anne loved school and spent a happy childhood with her Italian family in the Rio Dell area.

At the age of seventeen, Anne caught the eye of her neighbor, Milton Lozensky, and the two started courting. On June 25th, 1932, Anne and Milton were married, embarking on an incredible life-long journey spanning 75 years. Together they raised their children, Nadine and Donald. During their early years, Anne and Milton lived in several timber company towns: Scotia, Cranell and  Korbel. While Milton worked long days for local logging companies, Anne spent her days parenting and caring for their home and gardens. Anne was gifted with the proverbial green thumb and created beautiful gardens. A few of her favorite blooms were pansies, daffodils, gladiolas and sweet peas. In 1947, Anne and Milton purchased the family home in Arcata, California where they lived for several decades.

For many years, Anne enjoyed the family ranch at Ruth, driving her pickup truck, without power steering, up and down Hwy 36. She created wonderful meals from their huge gardens, cooking organic before it became fashionable. She loved having grandchildren visit during the summer, reading stories early in the morning, sharing tales from her childhood and puzzling. A family favorite was A New Fable of the Grasshopper and the Ant. She found wonder in nature and loved the outdoors.

Anne and Milton had a wonderful home in Myers Flat that was lost in the 1964 flood. It was a home that she enjoyed working on and sharing with family. She loved projects such as making rock paths, cutting fire wood, canning, quilting and creating beautiful flower garden borders. She was not afraid to work and teamed up with Grampa to get things done.

As the matriarch of the Lozensky/Mechals family, Anne welcomed everyone into her home where they enjoyed her delicious meals: raviolis at Christmas, winter soups, home-made pies and delicious buttermilk biscuits. Anne fed the mouths and hearts of the many members of her family and community with generosity and love.

Anne was also a member of the St. Mary’s Parish in Arcata and the Mad River Grange in Blue Lake, California.

Anne is survived by her loving family: daughter, Nadine Mechals (Ray), son Don Lozensky (Annette).  She is also survived by her grandchildren Kristine (Kris) Mechals, Teresa Flores (Ray). Hugh Mechals (Cheryl), Don Mechals (Diana), Michael Lozensky (Jill), Jeremy Lozensky (Star), and Bill Lozensky, nieces Sandy Ober (Jim) and Cindie Kelley (Neal ), great-grandchildren Jennifer Hatfield( Rick), Jerrad Mechals (Lauren), Jamie Koch (Jonathan) Jason Mixer (Amy), Misty Sparrow (Jeff) and Dusty Aros (Brandy), great-great- grandchildren: Chase Hatfield, Knightlee Mechals, Haley, Kali, and Jesse  Lozensky, Taylor, Riley, Colton and Jaxon Mixer, James Milton Lozensky, Justin, Logan and Haley Aros and Toby Lee Dawn and Charlie Sparrow,.

She was preceded in death by her husband Milton Lozensky, mother Nella Freeza, father Modesto (Poppy) Masini and brother Joe Masini (Gloria).

A special thank you to Suzanne, Kent and Ruth Lunde, of Cutten Care, for their exceptional care. Anne will be remembered at a graveside service on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka.

You will forever be with us in our hearts. We love you and will carry on your legacy until we meet again.
