UPDATE, 2:03 p.m.: The blaze, which blackened about 2 1/2 acres along the Eureka waterfront, appears to have started when a campfire spread to a nearby tent, according to Humboldt Bay Fire Battalion Chief Chris Emmons.

UPDATE, 1:47 p.m.: The Outpost‘s Andrew Goff is on the scene and says Humboldt Bay Fire Department firefighters appear to have the blaze under control. Still no word on the cause of the fire.

A fire broke out early Tuesday afternoon in a field near the intersection of T Street and Waterfront Drive in Eureka. Firefighters have responded to the blaze. We will update with more information as it becomes available.
